It's Gettin' HOT in here..............

Whew! We have officially reached that part of the year where I refuse to go outside. Today's high was supposedly 99 with a heat index of 107, but as you can see from the thermometer on our back door it was a little higher - and this picture was taken around 5:30 this evening, NOT during the middle of the day. Ugh, I miss snow!
Of course what else is a wiener dog supposed to do when it's this hot out? Poor Frank doesn't even get to go on walks with us anymore, he's can't handle the heat. We had to stop taking him a couple weeks ago when he started laying down in the grass and hiding under cars to stay in the shade during the middle of a walk because he was too hot to finish. Poor thing, I think he's mad at us because of this.

Here's a sneak peak at Rob's Father's Day present. I dressed Brady up in one of his ties and bought some D-A-D wooden letters and painted them black. I was trying to get a decent picture of him holding each one, but our photo shoot didn't go so well. It was very hard trying to get him to look at the camera and hold each letter in a way that you could actually see it. Instead I bought one of those "photo cubes" and am going to put a few of these pictures in it as well as some others and give it to him. I don't think he has any pictures of Brady at the pharmacy so this will be a good way to display a lot of photos without taking up much space.

Here's Brady hangin' in the laundry basket with his clean dipes, we had just taken then down off the clothes line. That is the one good thing about this heat - I can use the line and clothes dry VERY quickly!......and yes, I know I'm a redneck hippie for using a clothes line, laugh if you must.

I bought Brady Mr. Ducky to bathe in and he LOVES it. Now he can finally sit up and play with some toys. Too bad he's almost already too big for it. On the package it said for ages 6 months - 2 years, yeah right! Not when your 7 month old is as big as a 2 year old! Speaking of which, he will officially be 8 months old tomorrow!

Did you ever see a cuter face? Aww, my own real life Kewpie doll!

"Mom, that camera is scaring me!"

Brady got a package in the mail from Grandma A. on Thursday with a new outfit in it! He was VERY excited! Thanks Grandma!

Here he is modeling his new clothes! See that tongue hanging out? He's been doing that a lot lately. Rob calls it his "Michael Jordan tongue". What's really gross is that Frank likes to lick his face when I'm not looking and I know he's gotten a few good licks of this already. Of course Brady squeels and thinks it's the funniest thing ever. EWWW!

And lastly we had some "nakkie time" tonight. Brady's got some red bumps on his belly where the top of his diaper hits and I was trying to air him out. I don't think it's diaper rash, but maybe more of a heat rash. Hopefully it clears up soon.

P.S.   I'm trying out a new format tonight - hopefully the pictures appear a lot bigger than normal.

***WARNING! Picture Overload***

This post is for you mom! She was bugging me a few nights ago about not updating the blog recently and wanting to see more pictures - so I just spent over an hour uploading all of these. I went back through some recent pictures and picked out all my favorites - some are as old as March though. Don't be fooled if Brady looks small in some of them. Rest assured he is not! He was 20 lbs 1 oz and almost 30 inches long at his last appointment!

I can't even begin to tell you how much I am FINALLY starting to truly enjoy motherhood. I LOVE spending time with this little boy. He cracks me up. He is always making the goofiest faces and gets excited over the most random things. And he has gotten so much easier as far as naps go. Today he actually took a 3 hour nap in the morning and another 2 hour nap in the afternoon - I hope he sleeps all night like he's supposed to! He is getting ready to cut his 1st tooth though so I think that is why his sleeping has been off. His bottom gums look very swollen and I've never seen a baby slobber so much in my life. He's also had a very runny nose and been tugging at his ears which I've heard are signs of teething. Hopefully it will pop through soon!

I had a great mother's day - Brady (along with Daddy's help) made me a stepping stone for the garden with his handprint in it. I love it! I was actually hoping Rob would get me something like this instead of spending a bunch of money on something we don't need. He did a great job! We started the day off at church and then ran some errands and Brady took another 3 hour nap that afternoon! It was very relaxing and I could tell Brady was trying hard to be on his best behavior for his mama!

Enjoy all the pics! If you click on them they (should) become larger.

My garden stepping stone from Brady

This is how we found Brady one morning last week - he rolled over sometime during the night!

Excuse me have you seen my puff?

He loves his Babylegs. And don't you dare take that remote control away from him!

In his handsome football outfit courtesy of Justin & Britni!

He was the cutest baby in the nursery that day.

I love this picture

Are these not the silliest faces you've ever seen?

How many of those rolls count as his cheeks?

Preparing to get lubed up during his nightly eczema treatment

My absolute favorite picture of Brady and Frank together. Don't they look like best friends already?

A Message From Frank

Hello, mom's friends. My name is Frank and I don't get a lot of attention anymore. A new person has come to live at my house and I've been getting ignored and yelled at a lot lately. Mom and Dad always apologize, but my feelings still get hurt. I thought I would take the opportunity to steal the limelight for a moment to make myself feel better.

My buddy Jackson invited me to list 6 random facts about myself. I understand Jackson gets in trouble a lot also. His mommy is Britni, who is also one of my mom's friends.

First here are the rules:

1. Link to the person that tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Share 6 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4. Tag 6 random people by linking to their blog at the end of this post.
5. Let each random person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here goes:

1. I know English, seriously. Don't ever ask me if I "wanna go" anywhere or mention anything about food, dinner, treat, snack, etc. unless you're serious. In fact don't even tell me YOU'RE gonna go" somewhere unless you plan on taking me with you.

2. I can also read body language. When mom is going to take me to the park, I know exactly where we are going as soon as she starts to get dressed, even without her saying a word to me. Sometimes she is cruel and goes to the gym instead, allowing me to get excited for no reason. I'll cry at the door when she leaves because I think she went to the park without me.

3. I have to get my butt squeezed about once a month. It's really pretty gross, but kinda fun to talk about. A couple of times mom and dad didn't take me soon enough and I left them presents on the couch and their bed. Fun times!

4. Mom and dad like to torture me by dressing me up in silly costumes, make me sit still, and then point, laugh and take pictures of me. It's no wonder I don't have a girlfriend....or maybe it's because they had my balls chopped off?

5. I've got mom and dad wrapped around my paw. They let me sleep with them every night even though mom really doesn't want me in bed with her anymore, but I know she'll feel guilty if she kicks me out. And since she stopped giving me enough love when my baby brother came home from the hospital I know she'll never take away my bed privileges.

6. I love to eat mom's underware. It's my dirty little secret. But I'll only eat them when they're dirty. I don't care about dad's undies or mom's clean undies. I also love socks and dirty burp cloths, but nothing beats a nice pair of undies. Mom has had to buy an entire new underware wardrobe since I came into her life. And then I make her go out back and pick up piles of poo with colorful pieces of cotton in it.

Since I'm a lonely and unloved dog, I don't have many friends. So I will only tag my buddy Zippy at the Wonderful World of Wessel. I would tag my best friend and cousin George, but his mommy doesn't have a blog...maybe she should start one?

Tour de Nursery 2008

Well I've finally completed the nursery and am getting so excited about getting the actual baby to go in the nursery! I thought I would take you on a little tour since it is finally complete AND clean...which I'm sure it won't stay that way for long once the little one arrives. First of all here's a recent picture of the belly. This was taken on Monday at 36 weeks & 2 days. Is it possible to get any bigger?

First up, here is what you see when you first walk in the door. The crib is to the left and the changing table/dresser on the wall to the right. The picture frames above the chair are filled with cute scrapbook paper for now, but once we have some pictures I will add them and the scrapbook paper will be used as the mat. You can also see the two adorable crosses behind the chair. The one on the bottom I bought soon after I found out I was pregnant. The verse on it reads, "He has called you by name, you are his"  - Isaiah 43:1. And the one on top was a gift from my momma, it reads, "Children are a gift from God" - Psalm 127:3. They go with the room perfectly.

Here they are up close.
And here is Frank waiting for baby brother to come home.
Here is the crib wall. It is kind of basic, but I wasn't sure what to hang above the crib without it overpowering everything else in the room. I found this simple barn star at TJ Max for $5.99 and repainted it (it was originally red) using leftover wall paint. You can't see it in this picture, but I painted a few layers alternating between blue & brown and using a paper towel to "wipe" some of the fresh coat off, giving it more of a distressed look.

And here is an up close shot of the bumper ties I made, since the original ones that came with the bumper wouldn't fit around the rails properly. These things gave me more grief than the crib skirt did!

Here is the changing table/dresser. Don't get excited the "C" sitting up there is for our last name. I have made his other initials but took them down for the picture so there would be no guessing going on! I can't wait to show them off though. I stole Jessica's idea of decoupaging scrapbook paper on wooden letters that you buy at the craft store and they turned out really good. First I painted the edges of the letters a dark brown, then I mod-podged them to the back of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper and used an x-acto knife to cut them out. After they were good & dry I took a heavy duty nail file and filed around the edges of the paper to give it a more "vintage" appearance. Lastly, I globbed some more mod-podge over the entire letter to seal the paper on really well.

For the "C" since it is special and will sit in the middle of the other two initials after I finished with the above steps I used my handy hot glue gun and covered it in really funky/colorful buttons. It turned out really well. Unfortunately you can't see it very well in this picture. I would go take an up close shot, but I really don't feel like it right now...you're just going to have to suffer through until I reveal the other two initials!

You can also see some of our stash of cloth diapers sitting on the 1st shelf...the rest are hidden in the top drawer. Since we're using cloth we didn't need a traditional diaper pail, so I just bought a Simple Human garbage can from Bed Bath & Beyond with a WAHMIES waterproof pail liner.

This is the adorable Pinocchio print that my grandmother found at a flea market and gave to me since she knew I was originally wanting to do a vintage theme in the room.

Some of you may remember Lulu from a previous post. Here she is in all her glory sitting to the right of the changer/dresser. She greets you as soon as you walk in the door.

And above her hangs the guest book from my shower in August. I can't wait to finally have a picture of the boy to put in it!

In other news....I had another appointment with my midwife yesterday. And we had our final ultrasound. I am happy (and relieved) to report that Baby C is head down and it was quite obvious (cough cough) that he really is a boy. Let's just say he is very well endowed. The ultrasound also measured him to be about 6 lbs 12 oz. I've been having lots of contractions lately, but nothing regular or timeable yet. I hope I start making more progress though because I don't want him growing too much larger!

Rob has been having some tooth troubles lately. He went to the dentist last week and one of his old fillings had cracked (a while ago) and some icky stuff started happening to the tooth. The dentist thought he might need a root canal but wasn't sure. He definitely would need a crown though. So the dentist sawed his tooth down to a nub and put a temporary crown on it until he returned in about 2 weeks to get the permanent one. But Tuesday morning he woke up in excruciating pain and called the dentist. They sent him to see the root canal specialist this morning and lucky Rob was blessed to spend 2 hours in the chair having a root canal. Now, I've never had one before, so I'm not quite sure of the process, but apparently he has to back next week so they can finish it and then he still has to back to our regular dentist to have some other smaller cavities fixed. The total cost of this grand adventure...$1300 - after the insurance pays their part. Maybe he'll listen to me next time I tell him to brush his teeth!
